The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.

I stopped making new year’s resolutions years ago, but I do think that birthdays and the new year are great times to check in with yourself and your personal and professional goals. Often from the outside looking in, it feels like my goals are exactly the same as the last year. Things that always seem to be on my goal’s list: eating healthy day in and day out, exercising consistently, having more self-compassion, keeping my business in a good flow, connecting on a deeper level with friends and family, etc. But, taking a closer, deeper look, helps me see the smaller goals that I have met over these time periods to move me towards the bigger, broader goals. Can you relate to this in your own life?
In relation to goals, here’s what I’ll be discussing with some short, quick tips in this blog: your Word of the Year for 2025, areas of focus on your 2025 vision board, and ways to take good care of you in 2025.
Having a Word of the Year can be a helpful way to keep you focused on what’s most important to you in the coming year. My word this year is stability, what’s yours?
Here are some possible Word of the Year ideas if you haven’t picked one out yet:
- Wellness
- Release
- Adventure
- Stability
- Fun
- Health
- Balance
- Motivation
- Compassion
- Calm
- Peace
- Connection
- Kindness
So, what’s your Word of the Year for 2025?
Vision boards can also be a helpful way to stay focused on what’s most important to you personally and professionally in the coming year. I love being able to visually see my goals on a daily basis, how about you?
Here are some possible areas of focus to put on your vision board, if you haven’t done one yet (and yes, you can do them anytime in the year. I once waited until mid-year after an international move!):
- Physical health and wellness
- Relationships and friendships
- Educational and professional
- Financial
- Spiritual
- Fun and adventure
- Mental and emotional wellbeing
What else would you add here?
Ways to take good care of you in 2025:
- Read about topics that interest you
- Focus on mindfulness
- Write in a journal
- Start a meditation practice
- Exercise outdoors- fresh air, anyone?
- Talk to a therapist- the new year is a really common time for clients to start therapy
- Gentle stretches and yoga
What other self-care ideas are on your list for 2025?
If you hate New Year’s resolutions, don’t worry, most of us do! Why not set broader goals for the new year instead, starting with a Word of the Year and a vision board? The new year can be a hard time of year for a lot of us. If you are struggling right now, know that you’re not alone. Please reach out to your doctor or a therapist in your area if you could use more help and support. Know that I’m thinking of you and sending you lots of love and compassion as you navigate the hard times in your life.
