The positive energy and love we give to others, heals our own wounds.
-Angie Karan
Have you noticed that some days leave you feeling completely drained and depleted, while others leave you feeling motivated and empowered? When these very different days show up in my own life, I try to be interested and curious as to why this is occurring. I’ve found that these feelings are often based in energy giving versus energy taking people, places and things. So, let’s jump into this topic…
Energy takers in life often include:
- Toxic people
- Cloudy days (for me, at least!)
- Eating unhealthy foods (which often means processed foods)
- Dehydration
- Not getting enough sleep
- Heightened emotions- especially anger, fear, sadness, etc.
- Focusing only on yourself
- Lack of exercise and movement
- No self-care
- No downtime
- Too much time on electronics
- Not emotionally connecting with loved ones
What else would you add to this list?
On the flipside, energy givers often include:
- Emotionally healthy people
- Sunny days (for some of us!)
- Healthy, body nourishing foods
- Staying hydrated
- Getting enough sleep
- Emotional regulation
- Helping others
- Exercising
- Self-care
- Time for R&R
- Setting boundaries around electronic use/using electronics intentionally
- Emotionally connecting with loved ones
What else would you add to this list?
Self-care for when you’re feeling burnt out:
- Rest your body
- Emotionally connect with loved ones
- Spend time with your pet
- Get cozy- snuggle under a comfy blanket, read a great book, drink a hot drink, etc.
- Talk to a therapist
- Write about it in a journal
- Listen to a guided meditation
- Watch your favorite show
What helps you when you’re feeling burnt out in your own life?
If you’re feeling drained and depleted right now, know that you’re not alone. Spend some time figuring out what’s currently taking your energy, and what would give you more energy. I’m sending lots of love and compassion your way as you navigate your current levels of low energy.
