Out there somewhere there is a love who will never dream of calling you too much.

Last month I wrote a blog about feeling like you’re not enough. An Instagram follower on my @mentalwellnessformoms page made a great point about its “evil twin,” feeling like you’re too much. So, that’s where we’re going to focus today. As with the other blog post, check in with yourself to make sure this is truly an issue you’re struggling with internally, and not something someone in your life is projecting onto you (and thus, really something they need to work through). If it’s an issue outside of yourself/someone else’s issue, this is where setting and maintaining boundaries is key to protecting your own wellbeing in the face of someone else’s struggles.
So, let’s dive a little deeper into the topic of feeling like you’re too much…
What feeling like you’re too much often sounds like:
- You’re too needy
- You’re suffocating to be around/you suck all the air out of the room
- You want too much
- You take up too much space
- You’re domineering
- You talk too much
- You don’t let others participate
- You always have to be in control/control the situation
- Your wants/needs always have to come first
- Your dreams and goals are too big/not realistic
Pretty harsh, right? And how often have many of us heard these comments from others? Also, what else would you add to this list?
Where does feeling like you’re too much often stem from:
- Narcissistic/self-centered parents
- Gender roles in society
- A mental health issue
- Past trauma
- Perfectionism
- Something modeled by your parents
- Familial roles
- Not feeling like you’re worthy and enough internally
- Struggles with self-love
What else would you add here?

What else would you add to this list that helps you when you’re feeling like you’re too much?
Feeling like your too much is common feedback that many us receive from others throughout our lives. This is especially true for woman in our society who are often socialized not to take up space, be it physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, etc. If you’re currently struggling with feeling like you’re too much, know that you’re not alone. I’m sending lots of love and support your way as you figure out how to navigate this hard issue and take better care of you.
