At the end of the day my most important job is still mom-in-chief.

I recently finished my vision board for 2021. I’ve done this every year that I’ve owned my counseling private practice here in Flower Mound, Texas. Each year I have done this, I’ve met almost every one of my goals. The ones I didn’t meet are often by choice, like deciding not to upgrade my car just yet as my older car is perfect for our 15 year old who’s learning to drive. Other years it’s because of extenuating circumstances and external factors that got in the way, such as the lack of travel this past year (global pandemic, anyone?). But, as I do tend to meet most of my vision board goals, I do think there’s something to be said about the mindset that’s at work here. I’m also a visual learner, and like to have my vision board in a place that I spend a lot of time (my home office these days with virtual therapy being all the rage) and so I end up seeing it throughout the day almost everyday.
If you’ve never done a vision board, I’ll share a little bit about my process with you here. Know that it morphs and changes every year, and if something doesn’t resonate with you, feel free to just ignore it! I have a combination of pictures and words/phrases. Although I used to use magazines for images, I now print them all off the Internet. I have a combination of personal and professional goals on mine. These include: mental wellness, physical health, financial goals, things I’d like to try in the coming year, changes I’d like to make in my life, my word of the year (which is calm this year) family fun, travel to new places (hopefully!), date night ideas, fun with friends, and so much more!
I hope this inspires you to try out creating your own vision board if you’ve never done one. If you have already created one, I hope it reiterates what a helpful tool this is to use in your life to help you image and reach your goals in the coming year.
I also have some mantras for the upcoming year that I’d like to share with you here:
*Taking care of yourself first will enhance your marriage, your relationship with your kids, your friendships, etc.
*Be here now- don’t let the little moments in life pass your by.
*Connection first with your loved ones- before the lecture, the learning opportunities, etc. Start with empathy, compassion, kindness, and always, LOVE.
Here’s to a great 2021! I wish you all the best!
